Defining an Adventure Holiday by john mce
Planning an adventure holiday can be a daunting task, after all there’s so much variety in terms of what’s available. There’s bungee-jumping, kayaking and windsurfing to name a few, which can all take place in many different places around the world. Tackling some white water rapids on a raft, or climbing a sizeable mountain perhaps, adventure holidays can pose interesting challenges and excitement to those who are willing to give themselves to it.
Some people may even consider less extreme pursuits as adventures, getting involved in a cultural parade or carnival in an exotic country for example, or a cruise to Alaska to catch a glimpse of seals and whales in their natural habitat. Hot air balloon rides are quite adventurous, and soon you’ll realise that the possibilities of an adventure holiday are endless.
Look around; the more options you explore the more likely you are to be happy with your choice of holiday in the end. There are so many amazing places in the world to visit, from New Zealand to Mauritius and Tobago to Iceland, and so many great, exciting activities to enjoy you could spend the rest of your life planning your adventure holiday.
Once you have decided what you want to do, and where you want to do it, you should gather as much information about your intended destination as possible. Look for health warnings, hazards, visas, weather conditions and cultural subtleties. The internet is a great place to start, particularly with all the forums allowing you to speak with people who have been there and done that.
If your adventure is going to be physically demanding, for example Mountain Climbing or kayaking, make sure you physically prepare yourself for your adventure holiday. Cross-training and other types of focused exercise are recommended so you don’t get any nasty surprises while you are away. Also ensure you get a health check before you go, making sure you have good health and fitness before you go on your adventure holiday.
Adventure holidays can be a lot of fun as well as great exercise and stimulation. It’s not for everyone; many people enjoy spending their holidays relaxing by the pool, while some adrenaline-junkies seek a buzz even when they’re trying to unwind. Adventure holidays are great for those who spend their working life stuck behind a desk or driving wheel. These types of people should enjoy going away and getting active more than most.
