Holidays in Egypt are Great for Activities in the Desert

Although many people flock to the Red Sea resort area of Sharm el Sheikh to enjoy water sports, swimming and world-class diving in the region’s crystal clear waters, there are plenty of things to do away from the water as well. Situated in the hauntingly beautiful Sinai desert, Sharm el Sheikh boasts some of the most dramatic desert scenery imaginable. To make the most of your holidays in Egypt, leave the glitzy resorts behind and journey to the desert where you can go camel trekking or quad biking. You can immerse yourself in the ancient Bedouin culture by visiting a local tribe and enjoying a traditional dinner under the stars. History buffs can visit unforgettable sites, such as St. Catherine’s Monastery and Moses’ Mountain. All inclusive holidays in Egypt offer you sun and fun, as well as unforgettable desert adventures.

For the quintessential Egyptian experience, explore the desert landscape from the back of a camel. Camel treks, often guided by local Bedouin tribesmen, venture away from the resort area and into the desert surrounding Sharm el Sheikh. Many tours start around sunset so you can witness the sunrise while riding to a Bedouin camp. While waiting for a traditional Bedouin dinner, you can smoke a water pipe and enjoy traditional Bedouin entertainment, such as belly dancing and a tanura show. End your day by gazing at the stars through telescopes positioned to give you the best view of the desert sky.

Most quad biking tours of the desert surrounding Sharm el Sheikh last around 2 hours. You can opt for an early morning or late afternoon ride so that you can catch a desert sunrise or sunset. When riding your quad bike, you can often catch glimpses of the wildlife in the area, such as lizards and snakes. Quad bikes allow you to get a closer look at the vivid colours and formations of the rocks that make up Sharm el Sheikh’s desert landscape. Adventurous travellers can also book personal quad tours, which last all day and offer a more in-depth look at the wildlife and landscape of the area.

There are loads of famous historical sites dotted around the dessert that are just waiting to be explored. You can take part in an excursion of the mountain that Moses is supposed to have climbed (Mount Sinai) and see the site where he received the Ten Commandments. You can also see St. Catherine’s Monastery, which was constructed somewhere between 527 and 565 A.D. (supposedly the site of the burning bush). To make your trip a little more exclusive, why not book a personal tour for your group or family or have all inclusive holidays in Egypt? This will ensure you get the true Egyptian experience and it really will bring your holiday to life.
